The Intelligence Caste is here. Now.

On 24 June I gave it a name in my CCI manifesto. Access to intelligence is being sorted into tiers. A class system built on who can run the best models and who cannot.

The facts, just this month.

Anthropic pulled Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after a government export order, which included a ban on access by anyone who was not a nation's citizen. The nation decided who could run them.

OpenAI's GPT 5.6 will reportedly not get a normal public release. At a government's request it ships customer by customer, with access approved one name at a time. Again the nation decides who gets in.

Owning personal AI is getting very expensive for the masses. Memory and storage prices have surged, lifting some Macs by up to 300 dollars, driven by AI data centre demand.

The personal AI supercomputer is here, priced like a luxury. Nvidia just raised its desktop AI machine from 3,999 to 4,699 dollars, and blamed the same memory shortage now driving up the price of a Mac.

The AI factories are raising prices or rationing the better models on cheap plans. Google cut Gemini's headline price, then metered usage into five hour windows, and now sells credits to buy past your limit. The big labs have converged on one playbook. Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini all ration access by rolling time windows and weekly caps. When you hit the limit, ChatGPT and Gemini quietly downgrade you to a smaller model, while Claude stops you until the clock resets or you pay for more.

DeepSeek runs effectively unmetered and Mistral in Europe caps by the day not the hour, and the people already calling them the saviours of open AI are pinning their freedom on someone else's pricing decision.

Some of this is just pricing, and someone will say so. But pricing does not ban you by passport. A government approving model access one name at a time is not a subscription tier.

This is not techno feudalism. It is not an AI arms race. It is not a debate about sovereign AI.

It is a global Intelligence Caste, being built in real time.

Every caste in history has the same shape. A tiny class who own it. A small circle who get early access. A layer who operate it for the rest. And underneath, the majority, living on the allowance the top sets. Call it 1, 5, 20 and 80 if you want numbers. The shape is older than the technology.

None of this is set yet. The caste is still being poured. You can still refuse to be sorted. You can still own your tools instead of renting your mind back one window at a time.
